The construction of a float glass furnace is based on the longitudinal centerline of the furnace, the centerline of the No. 1 small furnace, and the elevation as a reference. The construction requirements for the refractory bricks of the glass furnace flue and regenerator are summarized as follows.
(1) Flue
① The flue of a float glass furnace is generally constructed in the first phase of furnace construction. However, some manufacturers, in order to meet the ignition time, construct the main body of the furnace first and then construct the flue. In this case, attention should be paid to construction protection.
② The construction of the flue is based on the centerline of the No. 1 small furnace and the centerline of the furnace. For convenience, at the junction of the main flue and branch flue, and at the bends of the branch flue, the treatment of the joints can use refractory concrete casting.
③ At the junctions of different flue spans, the joints are constructed with straight seams, and the walls are staggered. At this time, attention should be paid to ensuring that the length of the joint bricks at the joint ends is not less than 120mm to prevent the joint end bricks from falling off.
④ Expansion joints in the flue walls are set in sections, generally every 2m with an 8mm gap. Expansion joints should be staggered, and the outside of the expansion joints should be constructed with clay bricks, not insulation bricks.
⑤ The outermost layer of the flue wall is red brick. Since the thickness of red brick and shaped refractory bricks is different, and they are not matched during construction, it is required that every 7-8 layers of red brick should be embedded half a brick inward. The height of the embedded part can be adjusted by processing the thickness of the insulation brick.
(2) Regenerator
① The regenerator wall is generally 578mm thick, with the side walls and end walls composed of one and a half refractory bricks and one insulation brick. Expansion joints can be set in sections during construction. The partition walls are all made of refractory bricks (two and a half bricks), and expansion joints must be left at both ends of the partition walls.
② The checkerwork is a key part of the regenerator and must be ensured to be safe. The checkerwork must be laid with a stretched line, and each checkerwork must be straight. The checkerwork bricks are leveled with leveling bricks, and the upper surface of the leveling bricks must be flat to facilitate the stacking of the checker bricks. The leveling work of the float glass furnace checkerwork is time-consuming and requires meticulous construction. The most common method currently is to process the lower surface of the leveling bricks appropriately before laying them with mud. After completion, the elevation line is drawn according to the requirements of the checkerwork leveling bricks, and each brick is numbered before the leveling bricks are removed. They are cut according to the drawn lines, then relaid with mud according to the numbered positions, and the elevation line is drawn again. The height is corrected with an angle grinder.
③ The construction of the rear side wall should be paused after reaching the height of the small furnace bottom plate, and the construction of the breast wall and small furnace should be carried out. The construction of the rear side wall can only be continued after the construction of the small furnace inclined joint and rear flat joint is completed.
④ The checker bricks should be stacked vertically and horizontally. After production inspection, the checker bricks should be packaged in boxes according to positive and negative tolerances, and the tolerance range should be marked on the packaging box. Checker bricks with the same tolerance range should be used when stacking in the same layer.
